Hammers fan Joe Chapman has indicated his level of disgust at the performance of West Ham United this season, by posting an online petition calling for the club to scrap the “Hammer Of The Year” award.

Chapman has cited the “lack of effort and despicable attitude” of the players as the reason for the call to abandon the competition. Within hours of posting the petition online there were over a thousand signatories.

On the Hammers forums man supporters are threatening to vote for Dean Ashton in protest if the award goes ahead. Ashton has yet to play a game this season following an injury while on England duty last summer.
