Tottenham Top UEFA Group As They Beat Bucharest
Martin Jol’s Tottenham side have put their indifferent league performances aside to continue their fantastic unbeaten run in the UEFA Cup. Spurs finished top of their group having won all their games including an emphatic 3-1 home victory over Dinamo Bucharest; who lead their domestic league by 14 points.
Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring in sixteen minutes intercepting a throw from the Romanian’s goalkeeper and smashing the ball past him in to the back of the net. Defoe increased the lead to 2-0 five minutes before half time and scored his second five minutes after the break. This allowed Tottenham to cruise into the next round top of the group and save their legs for the away trip against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Romanians managed a consolation in injury time when Jean Phillipe Mendy found himself with enough space and time in the Spurs box to slide the ball past Paul Robinson.
