Spurs Smash Transfer Record As Bent Signs For Tottenham

Darren Bent has sealed his transfer out of the Valley, he will head north across the river Thames to White Hart Lane. He leaves relegated Charlton with a huge profit from his sale as they only paid £2.5m for him two years ago. The addicks may have to pay a percentage of the fee received to Ipswich as part of a sell on clause which could see them double the money they received in the original deal.

Bent has been the highest scoring Englishman in the premiership for the last two season. Only Drogba and the freshly departed Henry have scored more premiership goals.

The attraction of Tottenham for Bent was their recruitment policy of buying young, mostly English talent, coupled with the clubs desire to break in to the top four and play Champions League football.

Bent’s arrival win surely signal the departure of Mido, who has struggled to hold down a place in the team since making his move permanent last year. However there is increasing speculation about the future of Jermain Defoe, although he should relish the opportunity of partnering Bent for club and possibly country.

Tottenham will look for Bent to repay their investment in goals and trophies, as there may not be too many Spurs fans willing to fork our for a shirt with BENT on the back, despite the clubs homosexual friendly policies.
