Nakamura Goal Makes Celtic Champions Of The Scottish Premier League 2007

Celtic have been confirmed as champions of the SPL after beating Kilmarnock with a last gasp winner. Celtic have been at the head of the Scottish Premier League for what seems like forever and with a lead of thirteen points they can no longer be caught in the race for the title.

Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink put the league leaders ahead in the first half. With twenty-four minutes gone in the game he headed home a corner kick taken by Nakamura.

Kilmarnock drew level five minutes after the break, Gary Wales broke down the right flank, before playing a ball back across the box for Colin Nish to score for the home side.

It looked like the Celtic celebrations were on hold for another week, but two minutes into stoppage time Celtic were presented with an opportunity, when they were awarded a free kick twenty–five yards out. Nakamura saw the keeper’s positioning and curled the ball in to the far corner to give Celtic the three points they needed to be crowned champions.
