Morientes Keeps Valencia Title Hopes Alive Scoring The Winner Against Celta Vigo
Valencia’s 1-0 win over Celta this evening was their sixth consecutive victory at the Mestalla. The win keeps their title dream alive but leaves Celta lingering precariously above the relegation zone. During a forgettable first half, Valencia seemed to be thinking more about next week’s Champions League game against Inter Milan than the task at hand, whilst Celta simply camped out in their own half in am attempt to stop Villa, Angulo and Vicente from playing their usual attacking game.
Both sides came out in the second half looking for all three points. However it was Valencia that broke the deadlock in the 67th minute, Morientes getting on the end of a Hugo Viana cross. Celta made three changes as they tried to get back into the game, but they were unable to break down the solid home defence.
Valencia manager Quique Flores will be happy with the three points, but possibly happier that the game brought no injury worries for the upcoming game with Inter.
