England Needs You

A nation with no notion. Its been a few days since captain marvellous or should that be captain money maker exited stage left.

The appointment of Steve McClaren had many supporters fearing that there would be no change from  monotony of the last six years. However Beckham throwing in the towel on the captaincy has forced McClaren’s hand, he will now have to make a massive decision and will not have the guidance of a captain who Sven paid great attention to, with some saying that the captain picked the team.

Who should the next captain be? Should it be someone who leads their club, some one with experience? Or should it be someone for the future?

There are of course some likely candidates, Gary Neville the omnipotent shop steward of the England camp but he is nearing the end of his career and may not have a long England future. Steven Gerrard had led the red revolution and even in the face of adversity he was strong enough to inspire a comeback from 3-0 against the mighty AC Milan. However issues with finding a system that can accommodate both him and Frank Lampard may cost him the captaincy. Which leaves only one other option, John Terry. He has led Chelsea to back to back Premiership titles, and has come to England’s rescue a number of times during the course of the World Cup in Germany.
