David Beckham Has Completed A Mega Bucks Deal To Join LA Galaxy From Real Madrid

Having failed to agree an new contract with Real Madrid, David Beckham has decided that his future is in Los Angeles playing for LA Galaxy. The five year deal will earn Beckham $250M, the deal is the biggest in world football and smashes the $1M salary cap that exists in the MLS. The Galaxy are exploiting the new rule that allows each team two players who they can break the MLS wage cap for; a rule which will no doubt be the cause of animosity among the playing staff at the MLS clubs. The MLS game is not as affluent as its European counterpart, so the source of the funds to pay this sensational salary has yet to be disclosed. Although the Galaxy franchise owners have offloaded some of their other MLS real estate namely New York (to Red Bull) and DC United for a net worth of $100 million so there are a few dollars in the bank.

The real money will come from Beckham’s many sponsorship deals with Pepsi, Adidas, Volkswagen and Gillette and the many more that will be looking to jump on the band wagon when it arrives later this year.

Beckham believes he is choosing to go to the MLS at the right time, while he still has something to offer as a player. His new employers believe that their game will be suited to Beckham, they plan on making him play in the middle as the integral cog that will make the Galaxy tick.

Many have tried and many have failed to bring ‘Soccer’ to the masses in the states. Best, Moore, Marsh and Francis have all tried and failed. However this deal resembles the deal that saw the New York Cosmos capture Pelé, Beckham is not as complete a player as Pelé, but he has significantly more commercial appeal than Pelé and he also has a host of ‘Hollywood’ friends that he can call upon in his plight to make soccer a more popular sport among the masses.

One thing for sure is that the Beckham brand will put MLS under the spotlight, and with that will come millions in profit for everyone except the MLS regulars who will be receiving their humble salaries.
