Chelsea Overcome FC Porto To Progress To The next Round Of Champions League
With the comfort of an away goal Chelsea played host to their Manager Jose Mourinho’s former club. Mourinho won this competition with Porto before his controversial and well publicised move to South West London.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring after just fifteen minutes, when in the absence of captain John Terry the makeshift Blues defence was split by a Lucho Gonzalez pass that played Quaresma through and he made no mistake, he took his opportunity and put the ball beyond Cech in the Chelsea goal.
Chelsea tried to equalise at every opportunity but they were unable to breach the Porto defence until the second half when a poor shot from dutch winger Robben bounced in off the Porto keeper to put the English champions level.
The Chelsea second came when an Ashley Cole cross was knocked down by Shevchenko into the path of Michael Ballack who volleyed home from all of ten yards, confirming Chelsea’s place in the draw on Friday.
