Chelsea Knock Wycombe Wanderers Out Of The Carling Cup With Goals From Frank Lampard and Andriy Shevchenko
Jose Mourinho put out the strongest side he had available to face League Two side, in the hope of building on the 1-1 aggregate score from the first leg.
Shevchenko was gifted an opportunity to end his barren spell in front of goal by a stray Tommy Docherty pass. The Ukrainian striker still had a lot to do as he broke away from the Wycombe defence and slotted the ball past Batista to put the Premiership Champions ahead.
Shevchenko increased the Chelsea lead when his strike partner Didier Drogba played a clever ball over the defence on to his perfectly timed run. He used all of his experience and composure to volley the ball over the stranded keeper into the net.
In the second half the former AC Milan hitman had a hand in the blues third goal as he put Frank Lampard clear of the defence, the England ace rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the empty goal.
Chelsea’s fourth came on 93 minutes when Lampard latched on to Drogba’s pass to seal an emphatic victory, an put Chelsea in the February Final. They will take part in the first all London final when they take on the winners of semi-final between Arsenal and Tottenham. The first leg of the North London derby takes place on Wednesday evening at eight o’clock.
