Chelsea Win First FA Cup Final At The New Wembley Beating Manchester United In 2007 FA Cup Final
Comments (1)Jose Mourinho put aside the controversy surrounding his pet dog this week to concentrate on guiding his Chelsea side to their domestic cup double. In winning the FA Cup he has won six trophies in three seasons at Stamford bridge,
The build up and hype surrounding the first final at the New Wembley, was almost as long and drawn out as the redevelopment itself. The FA were gifted the ‘dream’ final between Manchester United and Chelsea.
The dream final failed to live up to the hype of the two best teams in the country playing to decide who had the more successful season. The lush pitch was dry and played slow. After a sterile first half played at a testimonial pace, the pitch resembled a poorly ploughed field. The groundsman at Wembley will have to put in a call to White Hart Lane to find the secrets to a pitch voted the best in England this season.
The second half had just as little to offer, the double team on the Chelsea flank were keeping Cristiano Ronaldo quiet. Only Wayne Rooney tried to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Ryan Giggs had what appeared to be a goal disallowed, in scenes reminiscent of that night in January when Roy Carroll cheated Spurs. Giggs slid the ball toward the goal and as he and Cech collided the Chelsea keeper pulled the ball toward himself as he lay behind the goal line. There was no foul as Referee Steve Bennett did not award a free kick, meaning that United were denied an obvious goal, demonstrating that what goes around, comes around.
Didier Drogba broke the deadlock with five minutes left his quick one two with Frank Lampard broke the United offside trap, he gently guided the ball over the advancing Van Der Sar in to the goal to give Jose Mourinho the elusive FA Cup win that he craved.
Chelsea A Step Closer To The Quadruple But Mourinho Future Still In Doubt
Comments (0)Jose Mourinho is uncertain about his Chelsea future, even though he is still fighting on three fronts having already secured one title this season. Chelsea need to overcome Manchester United to retain their Premiership title.
The Blues play Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final and face the possibility of facing Manchester United in the Champions League final as well as the FA Cup Final. Chelsea’s last three games of this season could all be against Manchester United. The same three games could also decide the fate of the three competitions.
Mourinho who has been touted for the Real Madrid job and the England job could have a change of heart and walk away from Chelsea if he manages to win all four competitions, in order to find a new challenge. Mourinho has told the press he intends to see out his contract at Chelsea, although the board and Abramovich may have other ideas. Mourinho reassured the Chelsea faithful about his intention to stay in England when he told the media that he has registered his children to schools near Stamford Bridge.
Football Association Get Their Dream Manchester United v Chelsea FA Cup Final Thanks To An Extra Time Goal By Ballack
Comments (0)Blackburn Rovers pushed the premiership champions all the way in their FA Cup semi final. Chelsea needed a goal from German midfielder Michael Ballack to secure their place in the New Wembley Final.
Frank Lampard put the blues ahead on sixteen minutes. Didier Drogba held up the play before giving the ball to Ballack who played a through ball for the marauding Frank Lampard who broke through the Rovers defence and put the ball past the outstretched Friedel.
Mark Hughes worked his magic during half-time, Rovers drew level when Jason Roberts got in front of Terry to convert a Henrik Pedersen free-kick.
The decisive goal came in the second half of extra-time, substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips broke down the flank and pulled the ball back and Kalou’s shot rebounded off Warnock in to the path of Michael Ballack who drove the ball in to the Rovers goal. Guaranteeing the dream cup final for the opening of the new Wembley.
Manchester United On Course For Premiership FA Cup And Champions League Treble
Comments (0)Sir Alex Ferguson is on course for his second treble as manager of Manchester United. His side secured a place in the FA Cup final when they beat Watford 4-1 at Villa Park.
United continued from where they left off in their mid week thrashing of Roma. It took Wayne Rooney just seven minutes to open the scoring, emphatically finishing the first chance of the game. Rooney found himself in the clear after Michael Carrick’s through ball was allowed to split a confused Watford defence thanks to movement from Giggs and Smith. Watford reacted and drew level twenty minutes later through an acrobatic effort from Hameur Bouazza.
Watford were not level for long, Cristiano Ronaldo needed just two minutes after the restart to put United back in the lead. An apt wat to celebrate signing a new £30 million deal during the week.
After the interval it seemed that the Watford defence did not come out for the second half, they gifted United a goal when they allowed Smith to stroll through the box and pick out Rooney who scored his second from inside six yards.
Ronaldo was replaced by Richardson who was the scorer of the final United goal. Alan Smith was the provider again, and Richardson lifted the ball over the stranded Watford keeper securing a place in the first cup final at the new Wembley.
Chelsea v Manchester United FA Cup Final A Fitting Curtain Raiser For The New Wembley Stadium
Comments (0)The FA Cup Semi Finals are later this week and with Manchester United taking on relegation threatened Watford and Blackburn Rovers plaing Chelsea, it all looks set for a United v Chelsea Final.
If Watford were to use the form book they would be forgiven for thinking that they could beat Roma 14-2 seeing that they beat Portsmouth by double the score that Pompey beat Manchester United by just two day previous. However in reality the Hornets have to compete with some of the world’s most talented players, who managed to embarrass one of Europe’s better sides.
Chelsea who can thank their Russian Billionaire for their recent success, face Blackburn Rovers, the last team that bought the premiership, albeit for a lot less that Roman Abramovich paid. Mark Hughes has a knack of motivating his teams to achieve unexpected results. However the galaxy of stars at Jose Mourinho’s disposal should prove more than a match for the talent that Hughes will field.
So if United beat Watford and Chelsea can dispatch Rovers, the Football Association will have their dream final, between Manchester United and Chelsea. Although the footballing public could be sick of that fixture as the play in the league, and there is the possibility of the two sides meeting in both the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup finals.

Mokoena told the Lancashire Telegraph that he believes “Chelsea are a big team. They have fantastic players, but so do we as well,”. He continued with No-one is unbeatable. We are going to go out there, do what we are capable of, and give it our best shot.”
Watford Thrash Portsmouth In Preparation For FA Cup Semi-Final Against Manchester United
Comments (0)Just two days after Portsmouth register an impressive 2-1 victory against league leaders Manchester United, they were thrashed 4-2 at the hands of United’s FA Cup opponents Watford.
The Hornets win over the latest side to overcome this weekends opposition will no doubt boost the morale of the players, especially as they had to fight back from behind to register their largest win in the Premiership for a long time.
Aidy Boothroyd and Watford will have all week to ensure their preparation is as close to perfect as possible. Meanwhile Manchester United have to beat Roma if they are to stay in the Champions League and on course for the coveted treble.

Inquest In To Pitch Invasion After Tottenham Chelsea FA Cup Quarter Final
Comments (1)The pitch invasion that marred the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea will no doubt cause the Football Association to conduct an inquest which will probably result in a huge fine for Spurs.
The incident occurred when the Chelsea players approached the Park Lane end of the ground following their victory in the FA Cup quarter final. Instead of the players heading into the middle of the visiting support John Terry, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard all headed to the side closest to the Spurs fans. The former made gestures toward the Tottenham Supporters inciting two of them to invade the pitch.
One made it all the way to the players heading back to the tunnel and he appeared to attack Frank Lampard and then Drogba. Another two joined them one Chelsea and one Tottenham, these fans will now face life bans from their respective clubs grounds and probably a football banning order when they appear in court later this week. A tough sentence, for some overly excited fans who would probably learn a lot more from community work or helping their football club.
When the situations were reversed and a player went in to the stands, Eric Cantona Kung-Fu kicked a supporter as he left the pitch at Selhurst Park in 1995. He was given 120 hours community service and fined £20,000 and banned from football for only nine months. Frank Lampard’s assailant did not have the same impact as Cantona yet the punishment he and the other two pitch invaders face is far in excess of that dished out Cantona.
The punishment should be severe, it should fit the crime but most importantly it should show the perpetrator the error of their ways. Banning them from football for a few years or from their home ground will not stop them. Like a junkie looking for a fix they will find a way to get tickets to away games or go to lower league football. Maybe they should be given a court order to work as a steward in the ground to help appreciate the efforts involved in crowd safety. Perhaps they should be made to help coach youngsters, or talk to them about how to behave when attending a football match.
Tottenham Hotspur Beaten By Chelsea In FA Cup Quarter Final
Comments (0)The cold Monday night at White Hart Lane was a far cry from the sunny Sunday at Stamford Bridge eight days previous. As the game kicked off the sizzling Spurs performance of the first game was soon a distant memory.
During a goalless first half both sides seemed to cancel each other out. The key players on either side were not allowed the same room as they had in the first encounter.
After the break Tottenham looked most likely to score, but the hard work and endeavour of Andriy Shevchenko paid off; he silenced the Spurs fans chants of “What a waste of money” when he opened the scoring. His venomous strike from the edge of the area, came after a mazy run up the right flank.
Another player who has lost his way since joining Chelsea Shaun Wright Phillips, increased the visitors lead six minutes later. Didier Drogba chested the ball into the path of Wright-Phillips, his volley went across Robinsons goals and into the back of the net.
Spurs continued to push to get back into the game bringing on Jermain Defoe and using Dawson as a target man upfront. The constant pressure forced Chelsea in to making a number of rash challenges in their box. They appeared to have got away with them until Carvalho brought down Berbatov and the referee pointed to the spot. Captain Robbie Keane took the ball and kept his composure as the Chelsea players led by captain John Terry made their feelings known to the referee.
Spurs tried and failed to find a second and Chelsea will play Blackburn Rovers in the Semi Final.
