Captain Fantastic Ferguson Sacked By Le Guen
Under-fire manager Paul Le Guen has made his boldest move yet as manager of Glasgow Rangers Football Club, he has removed the captaincy from Barry Ferguson and dropped him from the squad for the game with Motherwell. Le Guen felt Ferguson was undermining him as the player has too much influence.
Le Guen is under pressure due to poor league form as his side languish a full sixteen points behind rivals Celtic, he is unsure exactly how safe his job is despite a fantastic UEFA Cup campaign.
It would appear that Ferguson has played his last game for the club, which will disappoint the Ibrox faithful as he is every bit as blue blooded as they are. Where will he go? After citing homesickness as his reason for leaving after a spell at Blackburn Rovers he will be reluctant to move back to the premiership. But there is only one other club big enough to provide Ferguson with the stage that he desires and that would mean a move across Glasgow to Parkhead to don the Hoops of Celtic. A move that would tear the hearts of the Rangers hardcore support, but he would not be the first player to make such a move.
One other possibility could be a move to St James’ park to play for Newcastle United, he could still live in Scotland and commute to Tyneside. Newcastle could do with cover for their increasingly injury prone midfield, but would Ferguson be happy moving from and integral part of the team to a squad player? Would he be happy at the thought of not having European football next season.
Ferguson will have to bide his time and hope that results go the wrong way for Le Guen and hope that he can impress whoever David Murray appoints if he thinks he will have any hope of resurrecting his Rangers career.
