Blackburn Out Of UEFA Cup After Draw With Bayer Leverkusen at Ewood Park

Battling Blackburn Rovers failed to score the vital goal that would have taken them in to the next round of the UEFA Cup. After their 3-2 defeat in Germany last week Mark Hughes’ men knew they had a mountain to climb, but having scored twice in their opponents back yard scoring at home should not have been a problem.

Rovers were victims of their own impressive defensive style of play, which helped them hold Arsenal to a goal less draw in the FA Cup at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend. Leverkusen packed the midfield and left Voronin up front on his own for most of the game.

Mark Hughes thought that his men deserved more especially after an impressive second half display but they missed opportunity after opportunity. Even a fit again Morten Gamst-Pedersen could not break the deadlock.
