Birmingham Sign Striker Garry OConnor From Lokomotiv Moscow

Former Hibernian frontman Garry O’Connor looks set to join Steve Bruce’s newly promoted, Birmingham City who have agreed a fee, thought to be in the region of £2.7 million with the Scottish International’s present employers Lokomotiv Moscow. Once he passes his medical O’Connor will sign a two year deal and his first task will be to help Birmingham stay in the Premiership.

It has been a bit of an up and down year for Garry O’Connor, he was left out in the cold by Walter Smith after he went AWOL before the Scotland team travelled to Ukraine with many believing, that the hitman had played his last game in a Scotland jersey. However newly appointed national manager and his former manager at Hibernian, Alex McLeish has brought him in from the cold and gave him a wee tea cosy to warm him up for battle against the Faroe Islands and Austria. McLeishs’ gamble paid off and O’Connor scored a brace of goals to seal two victories in as many games. Now with a move to Birmingham sealed and his 15 month exile over in Moscow at an end, O’Connor must be looking forward to new challenges for both Club and Country.
