Arsenal Out Of Champions League After Draw With PSV At The Emirates
The Gunners season looks to be over following their exit from this years Champions League, in the last three weeks they have been knocked out of all of the cup competitions they entered this season and they currently lie twenty points behind league leaders Manchester United.
With a one-nil lead from the first leg PSV knew that Arsenal would attack them at the Emirates. However despite the opportunities that they created it was an own goal by Alex that put last years finalists on level terms. Alex is owned by Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea, but is on loan to PSV until the end of the season as he has yet to meet the criteria for a British work permit.
Arsenal continued to threaten the Dutch goal but could not convert their chances. It was the Brazilian defender Alex who scored the games next goal. This time it was scored in the goal being guarded by Arsenal’s Jens Lehmann. The goal proved to be the difference between the sides not even the introduction of talisman Thierry Henry could help the Arsenal cause. In the end Arsene Wenger was left to contemplate what might have been as he now makes plans for next season, while Ronald Koeman and his troops look forward to the draw on Friday with anticipation.
